I have worked with youth at detention centers, adults with severe mental illness doing in-home therapy, as a crisis counselor doing suicide assessments, as an in-home therapist with children, as a school-based therapist, and as a therapist for adults and children in a community mental health agency. I have been in the mental health field since 2005 and find immense satisfaction and joy helping people find insight and healing.I grew up in Connecticut, with a professional musician who became an Anglican priest as my Father, and a very talented therapist as my Mother. I was an athlete, musician, poet, and outdoors-lover growing up. However, I struggled to fit in during my school years because of moving around and being shy. I eventually realized that I didn’t want to squander the abilities that God gave me and I started to walk into those abilities.
I traveled and performed for a year as part of a performing group called "Up With People" (staying in host families and visiting over 70 cities in 5 countries), playing my trumpet, and then went off to college. During my time traveling and in college, I spent time with people from over 20 countries, developing my ability to understand the variety of experiences and situations that shape worldviews (that were often so different than mine). However, I still had no idea what I wanted for a career. I knew that I loved helping people and knew how to connect with people from many walks of life. I originally went into recreation and spent years leading youth on ropes courses/challenge courses, through the woods on backpacking and kayaking trips, and in various other recreational activities.
Through these activities I realized that I needed to learn more about the human mind and human behavior. In order to help individuals overcome adversity and struggles to the degree I was interested in, I went back to school to earn my Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I feel very blessed to do a job that I love, which rarely feels like work at all. I would be honored to walk with you through whatever you are dealing with.
